What to Do When the Customer Does Not Come

Wait the time you already named, leave one message, and release the hour. Do not invent the deposit in the moment. Apply the rule you wrote.

The hour arrives and the door does not open. You wait a little longer, then half an hour, then half the afternoon goes into the gap. Waiting looks like courtesy and eats the rest of the day. The order for a missed appointment should be fixed beforehand. How long you wait, what the single message says, and when the hour opens to someone else should already be written. An order built in anger leaves both you and the next customer in the wrong.

1. Name the waiting time in advance

One sentence in the acceptance message is enough: I keep a short margin after the hour, then I open the day. You choose the margin and apply it to everyone. Half an hour for one person and a few minutes for the next makes the shop look arbitrary. When the time is up, leave the doorway. Standing at the door does not produce work. The same margin holds for a job at their home. If the door does not open, do not wait in the street. Do not go into the building and ask a neighbour. That stops being a search for the appointment and becomes a disturbance. Say the margin once in the reminder as well. A waiting rule that appears as a surprise reads as unfairness in the moment of irritation.

2. One message, and one call if you need it

When the time is up, write one sentence: I was here at the hour, I am moving to the next job, write if you want a new hour today. Do not send three messages in a row. Each unanswered message raises the voice. You may ring the phone once. If it is not answered, do not ring a second time. Do not complain in a voice note. Say the same sentence and stop. Swearing, hints, mockery. These leave that chat and walk around the neighbourhood. Even if you are right, the shouting side looks small. Do not write the matter where everyone can see it. This job sits between the two of you.

3. Release the hour

After the message goes, do not keep that hour marked full. Look at the next job on the list. If it can move up, tell that person. If it cannot, bring the counter, the cut, or the paperwork forward. An empty hour should not stay hostage to a return you hope for. The person may write an apology two hours later. Then name the next real gap. Do not revive the old hour. Reviving it crushes the job you took in between. Squeezing two people into the same hour makes the person who did arrive pay for the one who did not. Write one word in the book: did not come. If the same name is late again next week, you have a date in your hand, not a feeling.

4. The deposit rule says what it says

Do not invent a charge special to that chat because they did not come. If the rule you wrote earlier says you keep the deposit because you held the day, apply it that way. If the rule says return it, return it. If there is no rule at all, decide calmly this once and add the missing sentence to the text in the evening. Do not punish the past backwards. If you bought material and it is still there, say that separately: the profile is cut, that piece stays with you, the labour portion is like this. Let the person see what stays and what returns. Leaving the account muddy opens a larger argument on the next visit.

5. Offer the next hour clearly

If an apology arrives, name one real gap. The sentence "we will look at a suitable time" means no time. Write the day and the hour. If that does not fit, give one more option. Do not stretch to a third. Insistence looks like a job that is begging. You may choose the work. For a person who arrives twice in a row without word, you may ask for the deposit up front and in writing on the next job. Say it as a sentence that protects the day, not as a speech about punishment. Still, do not announce it to everyone. The rule lives on single jobs. It is not displayed in the window.

If nobody comes to an hour you thought was full today, send the message without stretching the wait and put one word in the book. In the evening, if the margin is missing from the acceptance text, add one sentence. Tomorrow's gap should not be a surprise.
