What Happens When the Domain Name Expires

When the name runs out, the site stops opening, and mail on that name can stop too. Write the expiry month in the book. Do not let the day pass in silence.

A site address is like a rent. When the time runs out, the door may not yet belong to someone else, but your key no longer works. A visitor cannot open the page. Mail that travels on that address may not arrive either. The shop is still standing, and the door on the internet is shut. To avoid living this as a surprise, know the month it ends. Knowing the month is not memorising a price. It is enough that you hear about it before the day arrives.

1. Write the ending month in the book

The place where you took the address shows the ending day. Copy that day into the book and the calendar. Set the reminder a month earlier. A month is a comfortable span for seeing the letter and dealing with the job. If there is no reminder, the day falls inside a heavy week and passes. The day that passes is the day the site closes. Note the way into the account as well. If there is no way in, you cannot see the ending day. Do not write the password where everyone can see it. Knowing which account the way in belongs to is enough. If an apprentice took the address in your place, have the account handed to you. An address that stays in their personal account leaves your hands when they leave the job.

2. When the time ends, the visitor cannot find you

The page is not always deleted at the moment the time ends. Most places that register a name keep a short window. How many days that window is depends on the place you took the address from. Do not recite those days from memory. Even while the window is open, the visitor often cannot open the page. The address stops pointing at the shop. The link on the map goes empty as well. A person sees a broken page and walks to another shop. If mail uses the same address, it can stop too. The form keeps writing into a box that has no letters. You open the panel, and there is no enquiry, because the enquiry was lost on the way.

3. When the window closes, the name can go to someone else

When the window closes, the name can hang for a while longer, and then become available to be taken again. Once it is available, someone else can take it. The name you have used for years gets tied to another business's site. Getting it back is not always possible. For that reason, do not leave the window until the last day. When the month arrives, renew. The cost of renewal is the tariff of the place you took it from, on that day. I am not writing a figure here. The figure changes. The day does not. Missing the day costs more than arguing about the figure. What is lost is not a fee. It is the address itself.

4. Keep the renewal in one place

If the address sits in one account and the site in another, their days can be separate. Write both in the book. Renewing one and forgetting the other is thinking the door is open while the lock has changed. TechNest helps keep the day of the address and the day of the site in the same hand. Even so, let the month in the book be yours. If the account's reminder letter falls into a box you do not open, the day passes again. The box the reminder letter goes to should be the box you open in the morning. Check the box once a year. If an old address's reminder does not arrive in the new box, point it there.

5. When you see it has ended, send word the same day

If the page does not open, look first at the day of the address. If the day has passed, start the renewal that morning. Starting comes before leaving a short note for the visitor. If the page where you would leave the note does not open either, write one sentence on the WhatsApp status: the site is shut for a short while, write here. Delete the sentence when the site returns. After the return, try the link on the map and the form's letter. If both still go to the old address, correct them. The old address stays for a while in the saved links people have. Through that while, the door opening depends on your renewal.

This evening, go into the account where the address sits. Write the ending month in the book. Set the reminder a month earlier. A shop that does not know the month learns the morning the door closed by reading the notice board.
