Put the Phone Beside the Form

Do not leave the form on its own. The number you answer should sit beside the form, with the hours you pick up. It should be the same number as on the card and on the map.

The form is for the person who likes to write, and the phone is for the person who wants to call without writing. The mistake is to put the form in the middle of the page and leave the number at the very bottom, in small type. The person who will not type looks for the number and does not find it. The fix is to put the number you answer right beside the form and to write under it the hours you pick up. The number should be the same as the one on the card and the one on the map. An old line, if you no longer answer it, should not stand here. The hours also say that you will not pick up at night. The two paths sit side by side, and one does not hide the other.

1. Put the number to the right of the form or above it

When a person sees the form they should see the number beside it, without scrolling. The mistake is to lock the number into the line at the bottom of the page. The fix is to keep the form and the number in the same block, the number stands large, the form is three boxes, and both are visible together on the first screen or on the screen where the form opens.

2. Write the number you actually answer

If the card has one line, the site another, and the map a third, the person calls the one that is dead. The mistake is to forget the old line on the site. The fix is to put the line you answer beside the form, and to bring the card and the map onto that line, and if there is a spare line and you also answer it write it small, and if you do not answer it do not write it at all.

3. Write the hours under the number

If the number is visible but the time you answer is not written, a person who calls at night is cross. The mistake is to give the impression of all day and all night if you do not pick up. The fix is a short line under the number: on weekdays we look from this hour to that hour, on Sunday we do not look, and if we are on a roof or behind a cabinet we call back, and the line ties your word to the clock.

4. Do not bury the form under the number

Some people cannot talk in a noisy street, and they want the form. The mistake is to enlarge the number and to throw the form onto the next page. The fix is to keep both in one glance, the number is for the person who calls, the form is for the person who writes, and one is not three scrolls under the other, and both lead to the same thing: your reply.

5. When the number changes, change the form the same day

If the line is closed, the old digits beside the form ring for nothing. The mistake is to leave the form new and the number old. The fix is, on the day you change the line, to correct the side of the form, the card, and the map together, and if one place stays old the customer calls that place, and when the three stay the same a reply reaches you whichever path it comes by.

A concrete block can stand like this. On the left is the form with three boxes, and its button says send. On the right the number from the card is written large, the digits are the same as the card, and they are not repeated here. Under it are the weekday hours you look and the note that Sunday you do not. There is no old line. The number on the map is this one as well. The person who will not write calls, the person who will not talk writes, and both come back to the same line.
