Match the Category to the Words People Search
Customers do not search with your pride. They type the plain job. The category should be the honest label closest to that word.
A customer does not search with your pride. They type the plain job. Emergency plumber, wedding cake, men's haircut, tyre repair. The category list uses Google's labels. Your job is to pick the label closest to those words, not the label that sounds like a bigger company. A woman who makes wedding cakes had set event planner. Brides asked about halls. She switched the primary category to cake shop. She added custom cakes as a service. She wrote wedding cakes to order in the first line of the description. The hall calls thinned. The cake calls came. The shelf should be the same as the word that was spoken.
1. Type the customer's sentence into the category box and make the closest true label the primary category.
The box does not search for your title, it searches for the customer's word. The first decorated label that appears may not be the true one. The true one is the job you do at the counter.
2. If two labels both fit, let the job you most want the phone to ring for be the primary category.
The second one sits in a secondary category. You cannot make both primary. The primary one is the first cake in the window.
3. A word the list will not accept goes into services and the description, not into the name field.
If wedding cake is not a label, cake shop stays primary, and the wedding sentence stays in the description. Bending the name bends the sign as well. The sign does not bend.
4. Do not put on a category for work you do not do.
Writing wedding venue on a cake shop calls the wrong visit. A bride who wants a hall asks about the door, not the cake. You say no, she goes elsewhere, and she leaves cross.
5. A month later, read the search sentences that appear in the numbers.
If the wrong job is still there, the shelf is still wrong. If the sentences are cake, the category has settled. If the sentences are halls, a hall label is still in the secondary list, so delete it.
The week the cake maker changed the first line, the hall question stopped. People asked about the number of tiers and the day. Custom cake sits on the services line. The primary category is cake shop. Planner is not in the name. The counter and the shelf say the same job.
Type into the search box the first sentence you heard on the phone yesterday, not your own title of pride. If yesterday a bride said hall and you make cake, that sentence is not your primary category. If yesterday she said wedding cake, pick the nearest cake-shop label even if the box does not recognise the full phrase. After you pick it, let the first line of the description carry the same word. If the first line says another job, the customer gets lost in that line even if the category is fixed. If at the end of the month the numbers still mention a hall, open the secondary list and remove that label. Adding a new photo before you remove it only decorates the wrong shelf. Decoration before the shelf is fixed invites the wrong visit even more.
