How to Choose a Domain Name and Connect It

Pick a name people can say on the phone, point it at the site, and keep the old address from losing visitors.

A domain name is the sentence a customer uses to describe you. One spelling on the sign, another on the card, and a third on the site sends people to the wrong door. A good name is short, easy to spell on a phone call, and does not fight the business name.

1. Test whether it can be said

Say it once on the phone. If the other person can write it, it works. Hyphens, numbers, and long tails are hard to remember. If the brand name is taken, a small addition for the city or the trade is enough. Taking someone else's registered name creates confusion and a dispute.

2. Pick the ending for the place you sell

A familiar country ending is enough for a local shop. An international ending makes sense when you sell abroad. Extra names are for catching misspellings of the main one. Each name is not a separate website. Extra names should send people to the real address.

3. One of two paths is enough to connect it

You can keep the registration and host the site elsewhere. At the registrar, enter the DNS lines the site gives you, or its nameservers. Either path is enough, and both together also work. When the record spreads, the address opens. A layer sitting in front, such as an orange-cloud proxy, can stop the certificate from recognising the name. The address should look directly at the place the site lives.

4. The real page opens after the link is confirmed

A visitor may not see the shop window the minute the record arrives. A short waiting screen is more honest than a blank page. After approval, the real site opens on the domain and the old subdomain sends people there. SektorCepte Vitrin shows these records in the panel when a domain is connected or bought. The wider order is in the step-by-step website guide.

5. Do not throw away the old address

If a name has lived on business cards for years, the old name should permanently send people to the new one. Otherwise regular customers and the search engine stay at the old door. Put the new name on the sign, the profile, and the email signature in the same week.
