A car wash queue and a reminder

Cars stack up at the entrance. A queue the driver can see reduces the shouting. A reminder when the bay is close saves a lap around the block.

At a car wash the queue is the sound of a horn at the entrance. If nobody knows their place, everyone lowers the window and asks. The question splits the work of the person holding the hose. A queue people can see reduces that question. The driver sees a number, gets a reminder when the bay is close, and does not drive a lap around the block. This arrangement does not promise more cars. It washes the cars that already came through the same door with less shouting.

1. Cars stack up at the entrance

After rain, and on a weekend afternoon, the entrance fills. If six cars stand where three fit, the ones at the back cannot see that the one in front has finished. The question "where am I" starts then. Leaving the queue in one person's memory breaks the order the moment that person looks at a phone. When the driver arrives, they should take a number, and that number should sit both on their phone and on your screen. The number should appear with the same name as the sign. It should not mix with the queue of another wash.

2. A queue the driver can see reduces the shouting

If the driver sees how many cars are still ahead, they do not lower the window to ask. The person on the hose does not wipe their hands to answer every time. The queue must not lie. If the screen says three cars and seven are at the door, trust leaves once. Drop a finished car in the same minute. Do not keep a cancelled person on the list. If you do, the people behind wait for nothing and will not trust the queue next time. An honest count is worth more than a short wait that was not real.

3. A reminder when the bay is close saves a lap

Some drivers leave for the shops while they wait. When the bay opens and they are not there, the car behind waits, and the missing driver does a lap. A short reminder when two or three cars remain calls the person back near the door. The reminder does not shout. "Your turn is close, this is the name on the sign" is enough. If the person still does not come, give that bay to the next car that is ready. An empty bay is the most expensive pause on a rainy day. Do not force the reminder on a driver who does not want it. Most do, because they are tired of driving laps.

4. The name on the screen should match the sign

If the driver sees one name in the app and another sign on the door, they think they came to the wrong place. Write both the same way. Keep the district too, because two washes can share a name. What you can do should be clear on the screen: inside, outside, or both. Do not keep a job you do not offer on the list. Duration changes with the day's crowd. A fixed promise of a few minutes cannot be kept in a rain queue. "This many cars are ahead of you" is the more honest sentence.

5. Keep the queue in a place built for it

A paper slip gets wet. One person's chat group falls apart when the shift changes. Köpük keeps the queue and the reminder on the same screen. The person at the entrance gives the number from there. The person in the bay drops the finished car from there. They should not keep two books. At the end of the day, note who did not come even after the reminder. The note shortens the sentence on the next rainy day. Setting up the queue starts in an afternoon. Keeping it current happens in the minute each car is finished.
